Charlie was, of course, human at one point, as all zombies are. He had a normal life, a girlfriend, a family. But then one day, at his workplace on Wall Street, he was attacked by a zombie seige. He survived, but as a result he had been turned into a zombie. No longer able to associate with his family or friends from his life, Charlie wandered around aimlessly - eventually just calling that 'shambling' - until he found the clearing. Now he hangs around the inn for the most part, though occasionally goes to the city for his 'snack'.
